I
started at Fanshawe on December 6, 1976. At that time
we were called the Physical Resources Department at a
later
date the name was changed to Facilities Management and
more recently to Facilities Maintenance and Operations
Department.
I became a
steward in the late 70’s or early 80’s (at my age it is
hard to remember exactly). I have held the positions of
Secretary,
Chief Steward and 2nd Vice President, which I
still hold to day.
Also I have been
on the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) for
approximately 15 years of which I was the Union
Co-Chair for
about 4-6 years of the length of time on the committee.
I also
have served on the Union College Committee (UCC) and the
Employment Stability Committee
(ESC).
Over the years I have taken the following
OPSEU educationals
Basic Stewardship
Grievance Handling
A number of Heath and Safety courses
attended a number of the Demand Set Meetings and
Convention
I was the first Support
Staff member and possibly the first worker at Fanshawe
to do a work refusal under the
Health and
Safety Act, and I was at the College for the one and
only OPSEU Support Staff Strike.
